Casimir Markievicz: portrait of the artist
, by Wanda Smolin in the Polish House, 20 Fitzwilliam Place on Thursday, February 19th at 7.30pm.

Wanda Smolin is a graduate of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow where she studied History of Art. She has worked in the National Gallery of Ireland from 1981 to 1989 and subsequently as a free-lance lecturer and guide in Ireland and Central Asia. She has written ‘Casimir Dunin Markievicz, Painter and Playwright’ in the 1995 Irish Arts Review Yearbook and has lectured on his life and work.

Casimir Markievicz is remembered mainly as the husband of Constance, the Irish revolutionary and mould-breaking politician, but he was an important figure and led an interesting life as artist, playwright and theatre director. He lived in Dublin for 10 years and was active in the social and artistic life of the city. His story unites strands from the history of Ireland and Poland.

Admission free! Refreshments will be served after the lecture.
