“Novell Linux has just released this amazing technology demonstration video showing off some of the new features of their impressive operating system. While Windows Vista takes about 500MB to boot this Linux technology can run on almost any hardware.”
Novell Linux 10 xgl – Google Video
The demonstration video is over 12 minutes long, but just to whet your appetite maybe you should have a look at this homemade video first, made by a Brazilian Ubuntu fan
Desktop Linux Ubuntu 3d X. This one is just two minutes long, and maybe gets to the point better.
Or try this one – there’s several short videos about it here. As the maker puts it
“A little demo I made of my Ubuntu Linux config, using the uber cool XGL” (2 minutes)
I’m seriously thinking of moving to Ubuntu Linux, having tried out the live DVD – despite possible problems with my printer and scanner.
I think I read somewhere that this 3d technology will be bundled with its next release.
Looks like the 21st century is here at last, and it’s open source!
Hi Philip;
I’ve been using ubuntu since January. I’m using the “long term release” Dapper Drake – that 3D stuff is on the new release Edgy Eft which came out just a couple of days ago.
I won’t be moving to it personally because I prefer stability and reliability. (Not in everything I hasten to add). I’ve had no big problems with it – 3 out of the 4 digital cameras I have tried with it work, all mainstream printers will work – I believe combo printer/scanners can be a problem.
Send me an email if you have any questions – no guarantee I can answer of course.
