I was at Greg Delanty‘s launch of his Collected Poems this evening (February 27) and a very enjoyable evening it was too.
Greg told me that I put him up in Dublin back in the eighties when he came to Dublin first and was attempting to become a poet – and that I have a lot to answer for because of this!! His humour is infectious and it was nice to see him back from Vermont with a 250 page Collected Poems under his belt (published by Carcanet, Oxford Poets).
Afterwards I met Geraldine Cook, who mentioned The Emigrant’s Farewell, by Liam Browne (Bloomsbury). I hadn’t heard of either book or author – it’s his first novel – but when I came home I looked up The Sigla Blog and Sinéad Gleeson has a very warm review.
Sinéad’s review of The Emigrant’s Farewell
(Nice new look to the site, Sinéad!)
Thanks Philip, it’s a really good book. It’s historical, emotional and intrinsically, but refreshingly, Irish.
The new look caused me to shed blood, sweat and tears but it’s done now. Phew!
Like the stream-lined look around here too.
