The Irish Times (registration only) has confirmed that Peter Kavanagh, younger brother of the poet Patrick Kavanagh, is to be buried at Inniskeen in Co Monaghan, following his death on Saturday in New York at the age of 89.
The article by Seán O’Driscoll in New York and Marie O’Halloran quotes Colm McCann’s recollection that

I’ve just read on Pat Boran’s new Dedalus Press blog that Peter Kavanagh, brother of the poet Patrick Kavanagh, died yesterday in New York. May he rest in peace.
I quote from Pat:
His death will no doubt revitalise the discussion and debate which surrounds not so much his relationship to his famous poet brother, [...]

January 22nd, 2006 at 4:20 pm » Comments (0)

Terry McDonagh went to Hamburg this week for the publication of his new book for children, Boxes.
I’ve just got a copy and it’s a beautiful piece of design by his publisher
Blaupause Books of Hamburg. Terry is from Kiltimagh in Mayo, but having lived in Hamburg for more than twenty years, now divides his time between [...]

RTÉ Archives

The BBC, with downloads of its archive confined to British TV licence-holders, and The British Library with its Turning Pages website, where you can browse through 15 books by authors as diverse as da Vinci, Mozart and Jane Austen, have been getting huge publicity, and rightly so. I had already stumbled on this site, but had passed on - I didn’t want another username and password - until I read a review in Tipmonkies.
Listal is a web based collection manager application which supports DVDs (region 1 and 2), books, games and music. You organise [...]

BorrowBooks

Over Christmas I stumbled on BorrowBooks, which facilitates a comprehensive search of the online catalogues and websites of Irish public libraries, and the request of books, CDs, DVDs etc. via Inter-Library Loan. It’s also useful for writers if they want to know if their books are stocked by a particular library. Type in [...]

Quick Note

Just to say that I’m back up and running (insofar as a bacach like me can run) and my philipcasey.com email is back - for those who follow such important events.
I had a carefree time with my previous hosts for a number of years until December last, when the below-mentioned spam created havoc.
To cut [...]

Happy New Year and Apology

Happy New Year!
Straight away, apologies to anyone who has been trying to contact me at my main email address at philipcasey.com
It’s been inoperable since mid-December, due to complex spam problems. It’s but one of several reasons I haven’t posted here for so long. Email is supposed to save one time, but in this case it [...]
